Who Is Osho

OSHO (11 December 1931 – 19 January 1990) was a mystic, guru, and spiritual teacher, born in India. The international Rajneesh movement has continued after his death.

Osho continues to be published by over 200 publishers worldwide and in over 60 languages. His commune, now known as a meditation resort, is one of India’s main tourist attractions, and offers a wide range of meditations.

A professor of philosophy, he traveled throughout India in the 1960s as a public speaker. He was a critic of socialism, Mahatma Gandhi[5][6][7] and institutionalized religions. He advocated a more open attitude towards human sexuality, earning him the sobriquet "sex guru" in the Indian and later international press, although this attitude became more acceptable with time.[8] In 1970, Osho settled for a time in Bombay, initiating disciples known as "neo-sannyasins" and expanded his spiritual teaching and work. In his discourses, he gave his original understanding and views on the writings of many religious traditions, mystics, and philosophers from around the world. His intelligent discourse and charisma attracted a growing number of westerners.

He moved to Pune in 1974, where his disciples established a foundation and an ashram for his presence and work, where a variety of transformational tools could be offered to the visitors. Among those transformational tools, the ashram offered various original meditations that Osho developed for the modern man, many with an original musical score specifically designed to accompany each meditation. In addition, therapies derived from ancient and modern Western traditions including the Human Potential Movement were offered in the ashram to function as a cleansing tool before the subject began meditation.

About Us

Osho Amritdham Ashram situated amidst the hill tops of devtal at Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh.

These hilltops of devtal are the Tapobhumi {Sanctified ground} of Osho. Osho often used to come to these hilltops in search of his inner truth. Osho trod this hilly terrain and transformed it into a sanctified ground by his unique presence.

A unique event has happened here, is happening and continues to happen in these picturesque surrounding hills of Devtal. His divine energy can be experienced even today. One can attain peace just by being immersed in “DHYAN” amidst the exotic environment of “OSHO AMRITDHAM”.

This unique holy place is bestowed with marvellous beauty by the nature itself. The environment of this place is full of music coming from chirping birds waterfalls jingling sounds of cricket and music of deep silence, fragrance coming from flowers and fruits.

The nature has abundantly blessed the region, with exquisite flora and fauna including the inanimate rocks invariably adding to the beauty of the “Amritdham” gives the “Amritdham” an ethereal appearance. The divine world is personified here.

This place has come into existence in the year 1971, by Sw. Anand Vijay under the guidance of Osho, from then onwards meditations  are continually being practised here

SANNYAS-

NEO SANNYAS

Neo sannyas is the new way of living sannyas given by Osho to the contemporary man.

Before Osho the traditional sannyas used to carry a notion of anti world in it. It is with Osho a revolutionary way of living sannyas has come into existence, where we see that the world that we live in is not anti spiritual but it is a mandatory step to pass through for undergoing inner transformation.

It is through neo sannyas, the Osho’s vision for the birth of a new man “ZORBA THE BUDDHA” come into existence who would not escape from the world but experience every moment of this world in multi dimension i.e. Science, Religion, and Art, and thus remain integrated in his individuality.

 FACETS OF NEO SANNYAS

1)    Sannyas is the search for inner truth of our own existence. It is the journey from individual consciousness to cosmic consciousness.

2)    It is journey less journey from normal state of consciousness to fully awakened state of super consciousness.

3)    Sannyas is a science to transform our raw biological and psychological energies into divine energies.

4)    It simply means leading a life of awareness. Sannyas is a individual commitment for the upliftment of one’s own consciousness.

5)    It is with awareness the quality of our routine life changes into meditative life. It is with awareness we become integrated to live harmoniously with our inner capacities of mind, heart and soul.
